Join us for a powerful and reflective two-part book club series as we explore The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks through the lens of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Together, we will dive into the true story of Henrietta Lacks—an African American woman whose cells were taken without her knowledge or consent—and the profound impact her legacy has had on modern medicine, ethics, and racial equity.

As part of this experience, we will follow a simple reading plan to guide our discussion:

              Session 1: Chapters 1-19

Reading or completing the chapters is encouraged but not required to attend. Everyone can participate at whatever level feels comfortable.

The book can be found:

Amazon - Book (Audiobook, Kindle, Paperback, Hardcover)

The movie can be watched:

Youtube - Movie Trailer

YouTube/HBO - Movie

Our conversations will center community, compassion, and critical thinking as we discuss medical injustice, consent, race, power, and the ongoing fight for equity within healthcare and research. This book club offers an inclusive space to learn, share perspectives, and challenge ourselves to build a more just and ethical future.

This series honors Henrietta Lacks’ story, amplifies awareness, and encourages reflection on how her legacy informs our roles, responsibilities, and advocacy today.
