Important Dates
Applications will be received until October 2, 2025. Assuming applicants meet minimum qualifications, they will then be notified of their determination from the National Board of directors. Following, a final ballot will be initiated to all WIH members to officially vote the candidates into office. Incoming board members will be required to attend a strategic planning session in Tampa, FL on November 6-7, 2025. Board of directors will officially take their respective positions on Jan 1, 2026.

Duties of a Director
Board members are the fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission.
The Board of directors of a nonprofit has three primary legal duties known as the “duty of care,” “duty of loyalty,” and “duty of obedience.”
- Duty of Care: Take care of the nonprofit by ensuring prudent use of all assets, including facility, people, and goodwill.
- Duty of Loyalty: Ensure that the nonprofit's activities and transactions are, first and foremost, advancing its mission; Recognize and disclose conflicts of interest; Make decisions that are in the best interest of the nonprofit corporation; not in the best interest of the individual board member (or any other individual or for-profit entity).
- Duty of Obedience: Ensure that the nonprofit obeys applicable laws and regulations; follows its own bylaws; and that the nonprofit adheres to its stated corporate purposes/mission.

National Board of Directors Structure

Requirements for National Directors
- Must be an active Women In Healthcare member
- Must have served as a national committee volunteer OR previous WIH chapter board director experience
Board Responsibilities
All WIH national directors serve individual terms of two years, with the exception of the president (4 year commitment). It is the responsibility of all board members to carry out the following duties:
- Become familiar with, and make a commitment to, the mission, purpose, goals, policies, bylaws, programs, services and needs of Women In Healthcare
- Ensure effective fiscal controls and accountability
- Ensure Women In Healthcare meets all legal and corporate requirements
- Be an ambassador for the organization and resource to all current and prospective members
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality surrounding discussions and decisions made by the Board of directors
- Attend monthly Board meetings
- Execute committee meetings
- Attend annual LeadHERship Summit
- Attend in-person directors meeting(s)
- Assist in the recruitment of committee volunteers
- Update policy & procedures manual as needed for role
- Develop annual goals for respective committee to support organizational goals
- Succession planning for the position and organization
2026 Open Positions
President Elect
Overview: Women in Healthcare is seeking a strong female leader to serve a 1 year term as President Elect in preparation for a 2 year term as National President. The President is the principal officer and spokesperson and exercises general oversight of its affairs and the Board of Directors. In the absence of the President, the President-Elect shall preside at meetings of the the Board of Directors.
The President Elect will report to the President and the Executive Committee. The President Elect is a voting member of the organization. This position is responsible for general oversight of affairs and the board of directors.
Term: The President Elect will serve 1 year as the President Elect followed by 2 years as the President.
Time commitment: The President Elect can anticipate to spend 5 hours a week on Women In Healthcare affairs. This is spent attending board meetings, connecting with committees, maintaining documents, Leadership Summit preparation, and other tasks as they arise.
Vice President
Overview: Women
in Healthcare is seeking a strong female leader to serve a 2 year term
as Vice President.
The Vice President will report to the President and the
Executive Committee. The Vice President is a voting
member of the organization. This position is responsible for general
oversight of affairs and the board of directors.
Term: The Vice President will serve 2 years.
Time commitment: The Vice President can anticipate to spend 5 hours a week on Women In
Healthcare affairs. This is spent attending board meetings, connecting
with committees, maintaining documents, Leadership Summit preparation,
and other tasks as they arise.
Director of MentorshipOverview: The Director of Mentorship is responsible for developing and implementing Mentorship programs and education for both Mentors and Mentees. We identify interested women for both of these categories and then serve as facilitators as they develop their relationships. We also facilitate and plan at least 2 functions per year, including a breakout session as part of the Leadership Conference.
Term: 2 year term
Time commitment: The Director of Mentorship can anticipate to spend 5 hours a week on Women In Healthcare affairs.
Director of Education
Overview: The Director of Education is charged with creating content that is compelling to our member organization and planning programs and related events to support that content.
Term: 2 year term
Time Commitment: The Director of Education should anticipate spending 1-2 hours weekly on Women In Healthcare initiatives.
